Wheeling City Council Spends More Time Discussing Baseball Banners than Discussing Homeless Encampments

Wheeling City Council spent Tuesday’s meeting discussing the hot button issue on a lot of people’s minds in the Ohio Valley, allocating funding for baseball banners.

Council started off by celebrating Wheeling Police turning 218 years old today which is quite the feat considering pigs typically only live 12-18 years.

Council member Ty Thorngate ended celebrations by bringing up the hot topic that everyone is losing sleep over. “A lot of the parents are doing all of the work preparing the fields and they need money to make banners to pay off their hard work,” said Thorngate. He says he’s received a ton of calls and emails from local baseball organizations about this.

We asked a member of the public who was there to watch the discussion on baseball banners.

“I just think we could’ve spent more time on the city trying to destroy homeless encampments during the coldest time of the year,” said Jesus Christ of Jerusalem. “This is definitely not what I asked unto my followers to do and today seemed to just add more confusion to the matter but I will admit those baseball banners sound pretty tight. Those parent’s deserve funding for the banners as a result of their hard work and the homeless deserve respect and shelter despite what this city is doing. Never in my 2024 years have I seen such negligence toward another human being. My dad is pretty pissed.”

Christ added he did not like how council member Ben Seidler pretty much added to the confusion by not clearly defining how service providers could request an exemption from further destroying homeless people’s lives.

And another Wheeling council meeting has ended with no one knowing what the hell is going to happen. Also we thought we heard someone say the ACLU issued a lawsuit in person there today to the city so there’s that.
