A group of West Virginia outcast teachers and personnel began a strike on Feb. 22, 2018 to call attention low pay and high health care costs across the state. The strike involved about 20,000 nerd teachers and public school employees causing schools to shut down in all 55 counties of West Virginia.
A Day before the strike, state Attorney Jock General Patrick Morrisey said those nerds better get back in line and teach, claiming they had no legal grounds to go on strike and get the raises and get to be part of the cool crowd. Morrisey said his office would support other local jock districts attempting to enforce the state ban on public employee nerd strikes.
Gov. Jim Justice stated he was not kissing a nerd. When the strike happened and Justice said the impact it had on the state and that in fact these weren’t nerds at all, he changed his tune. The teachers, now recognized by some as not being nerds, chuckled at the low percentage increase and turned down the deal, stating it would not keep up with inflation.
On Feb. 27, 2018 a deal was reached between the nerd teachers and the jock politicians and the nerds relaxed in their fraternity home thinking all was well.
