“Downtown Wheeling celebrates much of our history with monuments to our role in organized labor, the creation of our state, and memorials to our veterans and firefighters,” said Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott. “Moving this historic statue of Wheeling wellness enthusiast Howard Long to Independence Hall will greatly compliment both the hall, and other monuments.”

“There are a few hurdles before we can relocate the statue,” said Wheeling Heritage’s Executive Director Jake Dougherty. “We are conducting a survey to see if the statue will need new running shoes before relocation. This cost will be offset by cancelling the statue’s membership to the Wellness Center, which will save the city thousands per year.”
