Just a day after the announcement was made that Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital are going to close their doors, the Spirit of Halloween stores swept in overnight and opened up their new location at the OVMC building in Wheeling.

President and CEO of both hospitals cites a $37 million loss over two years and the inability to secure a partnership as the two main reasons for the hospitals to be closed.

Spirit of Halloween says the timing can’t be more than perfect. The CEO of Spencer Gifts, the parent company of Spirit of Halloween, says this year the stores are debuting many hospital-related decorations and animatronics. “The building is already equipped with old hospital rooms and tools which makes it perfect to showcase our new lineup,” says Steven Silverstein.

  1. Horrible story. Do not think it funny to make light of people about to lose their jobs and a hospital to be lost to a community. Shame.
