“Drive Sober or Become a Wheeling Official” is the new campaign slogan to deter folks in the Ohio Valley from drinking and then getting behind the steering wheel of a car.

Earlier in 2019 City Manager Bob Herron pleaded guilty to driving drunk and hitting another vehicle and then followed up with a sobriety test where he was disappointed in the police for not letting him go and blamed his inability on participating in the sobriety test on “maybe having MS”. His punishment was a fine and was forced back to being the City Manager of Wheeling.

Fast forward to this past weekend and yet again we have another Wheeling official who will be forced into keeping his job after a hit and run accident.

Wheeling’s Vice Mayor, Chad W. Thalman, was leaving Generation’s in Wheeling Sunday a little after 1 a.m. when he wrecked into a parked vehicle and left the scene of the accident. When police questioned Thalman at his home shortly after the accident, Thalman had “bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and had a hard time understanding their questions.”

Thalman has been issued a citation and will most likely face more years added to his sentence of being the Vice Mayor.

Police urge folks that drink and drive in the Ohio Valley that if they are caught, they will be forced to stay in their position as a Wheeling Official.
