Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow which means six more weeks of winter! Shortly after seeing his shadow, FBI agents served Phil with a warrant for his involvement in the insurrection on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
According to FBI agent Steve Kelly, agents have identified Punxsutawney Phil from several cell phone videos and photos taken during the insurrection. Shortly after the insurrection, agents believe Phil went into hiding but knew he would have to reappear on Groundhogs Day.
Groundhog Day happens at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, revelers weren’t able to see him and celebrate in person since the event was virtual this year.
According to Phil’s lawyer, he is willing to testify that he broke into the U.S. Capitol because of former President Trump’s rally speech he held moments before insurrectionists stormed the Capitol.
